Sunday Rides
Our Sunday Rides
Every Sunday, rain or shine, NAM riders meet up for a group ride around Norfolk and beyond. Routes are shared through the NAM Sunday Rides group on ‘MyRouteApp’ – our step-by-step guide below shows you how to load a route onto the free app. Links to the rides can be found here on the website, or on the club’s Tracker system.
Grab the free app, and find our other helpful MyRouteApp guides on the MRA PDFs page.

Ride Rules
Only riders holding an A or A2 licence riding machines applicable to that category can attend Group Rides.
Suitable protective clothing including gloves and boots should be worn.
Dipped headlights should be used.
Ideally, a group should consist of no more than 4 riders.
Consider dividing the ride distance between the members of the group, allowing each to take the lead. The change of lead rider may be carried out on the move (see below) but we encourage it to be done after a suitable stop, taking the opportunity to discuss the ride up to that point.
DO NOT overtake other members of your group unless signalled to do so (at a safe location the leading rider should signal left, move over to the left and ease off slightly to allow the following riders within the group to pass).
DO NOT overtake another group, the following group’s lead rider should find a suitable place to stop their group and allow time for the leading group to get further ahead. (Please use this stop for the opportunity to discuss the group’s ride this far)
DO NOT speed away from the others in your group and always keep sight of the riders behind you. (they may of course be held back by a hazard or slower-moving vehicle)
If you want to stop, find a suitable place and indicate in good time.
Tell the others in your group at the start of the ride or at one of the stops if you intend to leave the ride before the end of the published route.
These rules are for the benefit of all our members and the public in general. They will sometimes mean exercising restraint. Remember you are ambassadors for the group.
To read the organised rides guide in more detail, it can be downloaded here: NAM Organised Rides
IMPORTANT: You are responsible for remaining in control of your vehicle at all times, and for ensuring your own safety and for observing all the rules of the road throughout the ride.
Safety is paramount. Do not feel under any pressure to make compromises.
Please note that group rides will proceed EVERY Sunday and they will NOT be cancelled. It is, however, each rider’s own responsibility to consider the weather, road conditions and temperature to make their own choice whether to attend. This applies to Duty Observers too so please consider contacting the Chief Observer or Duty Observers if attending on the 1st or 3rd Sunday of the month for the first time.

Sunday Rides FAQs
NAM’s Sunday rides are one of the mainstays of the club, and whilst often well attended by a number of our regulars I’m often disappointed by the lack of members (whether qualified or associates) coming along and trying them out. So if you’re hesitant for any of the reasons here hopefully we can reassure you enough to give them a go.
I don’t feel confident enough to attend.
This is completely normal, but please be assured you’d be warmly welcomed by all the group’s members. If it helps, one of our Observers would be happy to meet you elsewhere and ride to the starting point with you and make sure you have a group to ride with.
My riding isn’t as good as everyone else’s.
A lot of people feel this way, however the Sunday rides are an ideal opportunity to improve your skills and technique. Simply riding with others who have been trained to the IAM standard will see your riding improve.
Do I need to lead the group?
Not at all, we never insist anyone leads the groups unless they are confident and experienced to do so.
I don’t have a Sat Nav?
This isn’t a problem, we’ll ensure you are part of a group that has at least one person who knows the route and the final destination.
As a woman I feel quite intimidated by the number of men.
As a club with we have a number of female riders, we can happily arrange for you to meet someone prior to the ride out who can introduce you to everyone.
I don’t want to turn up by myself not knowing anyone.
One of our Observers would be happy to meet you elsewhere and ride to the starting point with you and make sure you have a group to ride with. All you need to do is contact events@n-a-m.co.uk and we’ll ensure someone will meet you beforehand.
It all seems very cliquey – I’m not sure I’d be welcomed.
As a club member you will always be welcomed, although we understand that turning up not knowing anyone can be intimidating. If you plan on attending on either the first or third Sunday of the month please just ask any of the members who the Duty Observer is and they will ensure you are fully looked after.
I don’t have time to do the whole ride.
Not a problem, all you need to do is let the other members of the group know that you intend to leave the ride and at what point.
I’ve never ridden in a group before.
We understand this can be quite intimidating if you’ve never done it before. However the lead rider will let you know how the ride works, including keeping everyone together, riding in a group, etc.
I need some help with the MyRouteApp, do you have any help documents?
Yes absolutely, see below the help documents for MyRouteApp. Click on the document name to open the PDF
